Biography

David Ernst Molnar is a Swedish classical pianist with Hungarian roots, born in Gothenburg in 1977 into a family of musicians, his father being the late solo cellist of the opera. His mother, the daughter of violinist Ödön Vásárhelyi and the niece of legendary choir conductor Zoltán Vásárhelyi, is a former principal violinist of the opera.

David started playing the violin when he was six years old, but later switched to the piano, receiving his first training with Vincent Trappman. He studied with László Baranyay, himself a pupil of Imre Ungár and Stanislav Neuhaus, at his recurrent master-classes in Hungary for more than 10 years, has taken master-classes and private instruction with the renowned harpsichordist János Sebestyén and master-classes with Jenö Jandó and Balázs Szokolay.

He has numerous recordings with Lalliox including the complete Brahms piano trios, the complete Mozart sonatas for piano . Apart from being a prolific recording artist, having several ongoing projects, he is also a physician, something that gives him another angle on musicianship.
